I'm glad you have that to look forward to. I didn't always think like this, though... since my people, the air nomads - they did things different. I only knew Monk Gyatso, and he was like a parent to me but he wasn't my dad or my mom. And the other monks were raised with me and they were my friends. It wasn't until I met Katara that I started to realize what family - what it really can be like. It'd just be... kinda turning away from my people in a way.

[But he knows he'll do it when he goes home. He'll have a family. He'll set new roots for his people. Which are not nomadic in nature.]
