[Today Winry has a busy day! Despite things in her neck of the woods slowly turning normal(ish), she has a lot to do. Feel free to bump into her at any time/place!

[Late Morning: The Library]
With Ed in the tunnels Winry has been running books back and forth. Sokka has done this too, but she's taking this chance to also pick something up herself. A romance novel with a monochrome book cover catches her eye. She'll flip through the first couple chapters in the library before taking off.

The book reads:
I scowl with frustration at myself in the mirror. Damn my hair – it just won’t behave, and damn Katherine Kavanagh for being ill and subjecting me to this ordeal. I should be studying for my final exams, which are next week, yet here I am trying to brush my hair into submission. I must not sleep with it wet. I must not sleep with it wet. Reciting this mantra several times, I attempt, once more, to bring it under control with the brush.

[Early Afternoon: The Smithy]
Work as usual - not. Off and on Winry tends to small chores and cleaning up prototypes, but nothing extremely productive. She might end up slacking off and reading again on the couch.

The book reads:
Portland disappears in front of us as we head into US Airspace, though my stomach remains firmly in Oregon. Whoa! All the bright all the bright lights shrink until they are twinkling sweetly below us. It's like looking from inside a fishbowl.

[Late afternoon: The Square]
Winry sits herself on a bench. The book she checked out was very boring so far. The writing wasn't even that good. She reads much further, but at some point she frowns. The mechanic's expression looks like one of disgust as her calloused hands slam the smooth book shut. Quickly Winry sets aside the book to open up her journal:]

Hey, would you trust anybody that made you sign a contract if you were going to keep being with them?

[She glares at the book beside her. Should she finish it? Honestly it's making her very uncomfortable. Maybe she should have picked up a medical text instead.]

I'm hoping it's just a loose screw and an easy fix, but it's a little hard to know for sure without taking a look really.

Roll up your shirt and I'll take a look. Have you been making sure it doesn't rust?

[She pulls a small flashlight out of her pocket so she can inspect it when he's ready.]

Yeah, I've been careful about that. [Spoken as he unbuttons the cuff of his sleeve and starts to roll it up. He had been expecting this and made sure to wear a shirt that would make that easy.]

[Once it's rolled up passed his elbow she clicks the flashlight on to start inspecting.]

How rough have you been handling it? It could be quickened wear-and-tear.

Not too rough. The Malnosso have been taking it easy on me lately. [At least physically.]

So you haven't broken anything? Your wires haven't been frayed, you don't think?

[Winry finds a spot where there is a missing screw, makes a mental note of it. She'll continue to look and see if there are any more problems.]

Nope. At least I shouldn't have. Just been using it normally for the most part.

Well... it looks like you're at least missing a screw. I'll fix that, and if you have any more problems you can come back.

[Winry clicks the flash light off before turning away from him to pick up a screw from her toolbox.]

Yeah? That's good. I was hoping it was just something simple. I know it's probably not exactly easy getting a bunch of new parts here.

You're right. Most of the parts I have to make from scratch with sheet metal. Back home I could at least order basic parts and alter them.

[She holds the screw in her mouth as she turns back around to face Vash. Her hands grip his elbow as she shines the flashlight back in the spot where she identified the problem. When that is located her free hand (one without the flashlight) takes the screw from her mouth, and begins to put it in.]

Yesh, that sounds like a lot of work. I guess I'm kinda lucky you're here then, I doubt I could make myself new parts if I had to.

You could always try to request some from the Malnosso, or have someone else here try their hand at it.

No. I'm not requesting anything from them if I can help it. [He'd rather go without an arm if that's the case.]

You know swallowing your pride and taking what you can get might be the best way to beat them.

[She pauses for a moment before picking up again.] Without their help I wouldn't have been able to give Hiccup his new leg, or be able to reconstruct Ed's port if he ever ruined his.

I've already asked for something very important to me. Until I get it, I don't want to be owing them any favors.

[After she's done screwing in the piece she'll give Vash's elbow a pat, and signal him with a thumbs up. She really doesn't have a right to contest his reasoning because she doesn't know the story behind it.]

[Vash gives his arm a twist and turn to test it before returning the thumb's up.] Thanks. It feels good as new almost. [Maybe a bit of an overstatement, but it doesn't feel off anymore.]

Thanks, but I didn't do much. If I ever get my hands on some polish, though, I insist you come in for a clean up.

If you do you can save if for someone else. I'll make by for now with what I got. I've gotten use to that over the years.

[Not that he'd also really object if you somehow managed to get your hands on a whole heap of the stuff.]

Hey, with as little as three customers to my specialty I need to treat all of them very well.

But what if you only get enough for two! I'd feel awfully rude if I took a share from someone else!

Then obviously you'd need it because their equipment is much newer than yours.

Huh? Are they really? I didn't think my arm was getting that old already! [But he's willing to admit that there's something newer than his out there. It may be one of the more highly advance things on his planet, but it was called "lost technology" for a reason.] Hmm, it's only been a few years now.

Well compared to Hiccup's new leg, and how often I have to update Ed's automail it's pretty old.

Hmm, I guess if you put it like that. Still, it works pretty well for it's age! I think I'll be alright with it for awhile longer. Besides, I stopped growing some time ago. I guess I'm kinda lucky I don't need to update it too much. Unless, you have to keep updating his because he's breaking it.
