♨ 1 Apple Pie + Nineteen Apples and Cinnamon | Action/Voice ♨

[Today Winry has a busy day! Despite things in her neck of the woods slowly turning normal(ish), she has a lot to do. Feel free to bump into her at any time/place!

[Late Morning: The Library]
With Ed in the tunnels Winry has been running books back and forth. Sokka has done this too, but she's taking this chance to also pick something up herself. A romance novel with a monochrome book cover catches her eye. She'll flip through the first couple chapters in the library before taking off.

The book reads:
I scowl with frustration at myself in the mirror. Damn my hair – it just won’t behave, and damn Katherine Kavanagh for being ill and subjecting me to this ordeal. I should be studying for my final exams, which are next week, yet here I am trying to brush my hair into submission. I must not sleep with it wet. I must not sleep with it wet. Reciting this mantra several times, I attempt, once more, to bring it under control with the brush.

[Early Afternoon: The Smithy]
Work as usual - not. Off and on Winry tends to small chores and cleaning up prototypes, but nothing extremely productive. She might end up slacking off and reading again on the couch.

The book reads:
Portland disappears in front of us as we head into US Airspace, though my stomach remains firmly in Oregon. Whoa! All the bright all the bright lights shrink until they are twinkling sweetly below us. It's like looking from inside a fishbowl.

[Late afternoon: The Square]
Winry sits herself on a bench. The book she checked out was very boring so far. The writing wasn't even that good. She reads much further, but at some point she frowns. The mechanic's expression looks like one of disgust as her calloused hands slam the smooth book shut. Quickly Winry sets aside the book to open up her journal:]

Hey, would you trust anybody that made you sign a contract if you were going to keep being with them?

[She glares at the book beside her. Should she finish it? Honestly it's making her very uncomfortable. Maybe she should have picked up a medical text instead.]

[Well well well, he remembers this voice.]

Anyone forcing you into a contract already doesn't trust you. How's it going, Win?
godbent: (Is just as obsessed)

[And at the bench? Haruhi sees that and just goes and takes a seat next to her unceremoniously. She looks out over the shoulder to try to read it. Yep, rudeness is cool]

[Cross has come by the smithy today in order to fix up the arm he damaged in the draft. Thankfully he's got spares.

The things he lacks is metal and the smithy is always good for that.

When he arrives, Cross turns to see that girl he had spoken to once before. Winry was her name, right? The boy notices the book in her hands and can't help but try and peer over her shoulder.]

Neeeever heard of seeing something from above being compared to a fishbowl before.

[Even with ten years past, there's still the fact that he's only really ever known her as his 'fake daughter'. Not only does it remove her from being a romantic interest, it also lends himself to be the slightest bit concerned about her existence.]

S'been awhile, sunshine. Longer for me than you. I wasn't sure you were still around and kicking here.

[What, she wants to read it! She ignores that, actually, to try to read it. Is it shut? Is it able to be read? Who knows?]

Hey.

If there's a contract like that, I doubt there was much trust there to start.

Oh, a month ago. I work at the bar now. Some jerk stole Cloud Nine from me, so I decided to plant my influences elsewhere. Besides, me'n Buffy make a good team.

[A great... PARENTAL team. har har.]

It feels like it's been a while since we hung out. [Which is understandable, she supposes, given her boyfriend issues and therefore that she needs to hang with Elicia more. She's come over and had some fun there in the last few months, but] So I'm just going to sit next to you.

[The raunchiness would be lost on him anyways.]

What? It's just a book.

A contract? Goodness, that doesn't sound all that romantic a thing, does it. [ It sounds kind of creepy, actually. ] Why on Earth would a contract need to be involved in the first place?

[ She pauses to think a moment, picking back over all the books she's read over the years, in an attempt to answer her own question. Romance and weird contracts....Gasp! ] Are they trying to swindle someone out of their valuables?!

I suppose it would depend on what the contract is for, really. But if signing it is required in order for two people to stay together, well, that doesn't really sound fair to the other party.

Ah...I suppose that's good, then. [ ... ] Though personally, I don't think I'd trust someone like that. Contracts are fine for business purposes, but they don't really seem like a good idea where romance is concerned.

At least, if my understanding of such things is correct. I could be wrong.

Just parts? Or is the whole thing negotiable?
