It's not like I just... stopped. I still cared about you, and if anyone tried to mess with you I'd make sure they'd end up with a dent in their head.

[Past tense. And "tried to mess with her?" Jeez, she doesn't care about that sort of protective "caring." She can handle herself and that's about the level most people would attribute to caring for a dog. Bah. She doesn't voice that though, instead just going to cutting this pepper]

[Hung up on semantics, now are we? Winry frowns. Haruhi brought up this conversation, but she doesn't seem to want to talk? this is stupid.]

[...Fine, you know what? If there's silence there, Haruhi lets it sit for only a moment longer before, still cutting the pepper] I don't want that. "Caring" sounds so abstract, and I don't need someone to beat up people for me or get revenge for me. I can handle both of those myself.

[...] That might sound too harsh, I guess... [Trailing off]

Yeah, I get it. You're a big girl. That won't stop me from wanting to stand up for or support you.

But tell me, Haruhi, what do you want?

I want to have not lost so much. I don't know. [Cut, cut. These are done, let's get water boiling]

Who says you lost anything between now and right after we broke up? It's not like I don't want you in my life, Haruhi.

I do. I can feel the difference between then and now. It's not that it isn't natural or expected, but it's still a loss for me.

I don't know what you want me to do about that, though.

You keep assuming what I think and feel.

Then tell me how you do think and feel? I'm not good at these things, but even I know some vague term like "caring" is a cop out.

"Cop out"? Is that what you think? That I'm trying to take some easy way out, or something? It's not like I can just easily describe all of my feelings. Especially when you think all I'm trying to do is leave you and run.

I'm worse with feelings than you, and you know it. [:T] But fine, whatever, I'm not thinking anything! Just lay it on me!

Haruhi, I still like you. Those feelings don't just disappear. But... We're both single now, and I like someone else too. If I keep acting the same I'm afraid we'll get together again. I mean that's not a bad thing or-

Wouldn't that be one step forward, two steps back? And you can't find someone else if you're still hung up on me.

Why would I want to be with someone? Love's a mental illness anyway.

[Stirring some stock - she needs salsa. She goes to see if they have any or she'll need to improvise]
